Professor Haseena Khan at the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
and Professor Zeba I Seraj are recipients of a substantial amount of grant from
USDA to support their research work in their molecular biology work on Jute and rice respectively.
From USAID Professor Haseena received grant of US$ 243,501 and from the International Centre
for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) a sum of US$ 45,000 for her molecular Biology work
on Jute. USDA has also granted a substantial amount of funding to support various research
in various fields of biotechnology in Bangladesh Agriculture University and two other concerned
departments in Dhaka University. Dr. Imdadul Hoque at the Department of Botany, Dhaka University has
also been awarded adequatefunding by the German government to support his collaborative research work with
Hanover University on legume transformation USDA is also seriously considering of creating an Endowment Fund under the umbrella of Bangladesh Academy
of Sciences to support research work in various fields of biotechnology. When implemented, it will
go a long way to promote biotech research activity in the country.
