Area of Specialization : Plant Molecular Biology: Gene silencing, functional genomics, identifying PTGS (post transcriptional gene silencing) suppressor, identification and isolation of viral genome etc.
Achievement : During the course of my Ph.D. study, I succeeded in constructing a gene-silencing vector based on DNA-A of Mungbean Yellow Mosaic India Virus (MYMIV). My prime focus was in three areas: To use the new vector for (a) analyzing gene function, ii) stepping up level of expression of a gene of interest in plants in a transient manner, and iii) obtaining transgenic plants with a loss of function of any harmful genes such as those responsible for producing debilitating diseases such as lathyrism etc.
Future Plan : I would like to involve myself in both applied and basic aspects of plant research totally devoted for the uplift of our economy with an emphasis on an integrated approach encompassing multiple fields in agriculture. In other words, I am aiming at a multifaceted research plan.
Research Interest : Plant Molecular Biolgy, Plant transformation
